Announcement: "The Hidden Renaissance" Drops October 2022 -- Reserve your copy with The St. Choppio Token
This independent book will be issued through smart contract interaction with the blockchain. Art enthusiasts and NFT collectors can reserve their airdrop of the book with the St. Choppio token
On June 15, I created the Hidden Renaissance smart contract, an ERC-1155 standard contract that uses the symbol $POGIO. The purpose of the smart contract is to be a mark of provenance for the many books and pieces of art I wish to create on the Ethereum blockchain.
My first token is the St. Choppio token, which carries the image of a piece of meme art by Pauly, the CEO of NotLarvaLabs. It’s a reservation token that enables the holder to receive the first virtual printing of “The Hidden Renaissance,” a book I am writing about the artists and developers who are building the Web3 infrastructure that enables creators to track and profit from their creative labor on the web.
The St. Choppio token can be purchased for .04 ETH. If you keep the token in your wallet, you will be airdropped the new book when it drops in October. There will also be some other surprises, but the book alone is worth the cost of owning this NFT.
So What is the Book About?
Well, I don’t want to give too much away but…
The parallels between the end of the medieval period in Europe in the 14th-15th Centuries and the current rise of blockchain art and the mania for NFTs are so striking that you would think you are watching a re-run of the Renaissance.
Both periods have wild and geeky obsessive-compulsive types who love to think about fonts and technical uses of tools that transmit information. Both periods are marked by a wild search for missing pieces of history. Both are filled with dramatic and rumor-inducing personalities, disgruntled artists and manic technologists who wish to make their mark on history and influence the path of civilisation.
Though separated by over 600 years, both of these periods are characterised by the stresses of war, immense corruption, and a looming and authoritarian dogma that cancelled out innovation and enforced mediocrity.
And both turn to art to cultivate a necessary humanism.
This book is for anyone who loves art, history and the rebellious and hard-to-contain creative types that tilt the world towards newness and change. It’s for anyone who has ever wondered, What the hell is an NFT? And it’s for anyone who looks to art and philosophy for inspiration and insights. And memes.
